The second round match between Alexander Zverev and Brandon Nakashima at the 2025 Cincinnati Masters was suspended due to rain during the second set. The match, originally scheduled for Tuesday, will now be resumed on Wednesday (local time).

The interruption came at a crucial moment, with Zverev leading the second set 5:4 and serving. Prior to the suspension, Zverev had taken a lead in the second set by breaking Nakashima's serve. However, after the rain pause, Zverev had to save another break point.

The first set was won by Zverev with courage, risk-taking, and an ace on his second serve. He also fended off three consecutive break points at 2:3 in the first set.

The Cincinnati Masters, a hardcourt tournament with a total prize money of around 9.2 million US dollars (around 7.9 million euros), is a highly anticipated event in the tennis calendar.

It is important to note that Zverev's previous match, against Karen Khachanov in the Round of 16, was won by Zverev by a score of 7-5, 3-0 before Khachanov retired. This match was not rescheduled or delayed, according to the available information.

In the subsequent rounds, Zverev defeated Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semifinals, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-3 after struggling physically and taking a medical timeout.

If Zverev wins the rescheduled match against Nakashima, he will have a chance to face Khachanov for revenge, as he lost to him in the semifinals of Toronto last week. The Cincinnati Masters will continue to be a stage for exciting matches and potential upsets.
