Jury selection commences in Diddy's federal trial, with the hip-hop mogul expressing a hint of tension.

Federal trial for Sean "Diddy" Combs' future kicks off Monday, seven months after indictment for racketeering conspiracy, aiding prostitution, and sex trafficking, allegations tracing back two decades according to authorities.

Jury selection commences in Diddy's federal trial, with the hip-hop mogul expressing a hint of tension.

The Showdown for Diddy:

The jury selection for Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal showdown is in full swing, with the pop culture titan accused of racketeering, sex trafficking, and more, facing serious time behind bars if found guilty.

Combs has vehemently denied the charges and pleaded not guilty. The trial, set to commence on May 12, will unfold in a Manhattan Federal courthouse, far from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. If convicted on all charges, he could be looking at life imprisonment.

Judge Arun Subramanian presides over the trial, with prospective jurors undergoing a thorough screening process. Before entering the courtroom, each juror scrutinizes a hefty binder filled with people and places likely to be discussed during the proceedings, akin to an appendix from "The Lord of the Rings."

During jury selection, the parties have the power to strike a juror for cause, or call them back later for further questioning. Combs' attorney took a short break during the proceedings, admitting to feelings of nervousness, to which the judge complied.

Combs has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024. The government alleges that Combs, from 2004 to 2024, created a criminal enterprise using his business empire to engage in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice.

He is accused of coercing at least three women to take part in sex acts and, at times, with male prostitutes, during "Freak Offs." Authorities claim Combs recorded some of these encounters and controlled victims with promises of financial opportunities, as well as threats of violence and other harm.

Combs is facing five counts in total, with charges related to four victims, including one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The four victims named in the court filings are expected to testify at trial.

Things got especially heated when one of the alleged victims, Combs' former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, chose to testify under her own name instead of a pseudonym. Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs in 2023, accusing him of rape and repeated physical abuse. Despite Combs' denial of Ventura's allegations, the case was settled the following day.

Footage of the 2016 assault, initially published by CNN, may also be shown to the jury during the trial. Mark Agnifilo, Teny Geragos, and Brian Steel are the three attorneys representing Combs, with the latter joining the team in April, having represented rapper Young Thug in his recent racketeering trial.

The US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York indicted Combs in 2024. Multiple civil lawsuits accusing Combs of sexual assault have also been filed, although they are separate from the federal criminal trial.
