Jury in Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault retrial continues deliberations on day four, still undecided on verdict.
In the Heart of Manhattan - The fourth day of Harvey Weinstein's sexual assault retrial‘s deliberations wrapped up without a verdict, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats.
Facing criminal charges based on the allegations of three women – former TV production assistant Miriam Haley, Polish model and aspiring actress Kaja Sokola, and one-time actress Jessica Mann – the 73-year-old movie producer still finds himself in hot water.
Throughout the trial, tension in the jury room has been palpable. Juror No. 7 asked for dismissal on Friday, expressing discomfort with the "playground drama" that included one juror discussing another in an elevator. On Monday, the jury foreperson reached out to the judge, stating, "There's a situation that isn’t good," and mentioning that some jurors were pushing others and talking about Weinstein's past.
Weinstein's defense team pleaded for a halt to the deliberations, suggesting that it was unfair to send the defendant back into a contentious environment. However, the judge denied their request, allowing the proceedings to continue.
By Tuesday, the jury showed no signs of approaching a deadlock. They requested a rereading of the jury definition of reasonable doubt and the rules of deliberation, especially in light of avoiding a hung jury.
Despite the tensions, the jury decided to review evidence involving Mann on Wednesday morning – her emails to Weinstein, her medical records from 2017, and a read-back of her testimony detailing the incident she claims was a rape in a Midtown hotel in 2013. The jury had previously requested some of that evidence, including the medical records, during the initial week of deliberations.
Deliberations are scheduled to pick up again at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
In a recent update from 2025, a Manhattan jury convicted Weinstein of rape and sexual assault charges based on Haley and Mann's accusations[1]. Interestingly, there was a subsequent ruling that overturned this conviction, citing that the charges should not have allowed non-charged women to testify against Weinstein and establish a pattern of predatory behavior[1].
More than 80 women, including actresses Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd, have accused Weinstein of sexual assault, harassment, or other misconduct. Stay tuned for more updates on the 2023 retrial proceedings.
