Jurors start weighing options in the trial of Lori Vallow Daybell, accused of plotting to murder her spouse.

Let's dive into the drama unfolding in Arizona, where doomsday believer Lori Vallow Daybell is on trial for conspiring to murder her former hubby Charles Vallow back in 2019. The jury began deliberations this Monday, with more fireworks expected on Tuesday.

The trial kick-started two weeks ago, painting two wildly disparate versions of Charles Vallow's demise at Lori's home. Prosecutors argued the murder was premeditated and planned, whereas Lori, representing herself in court, claimed it was an unfortunate tragedy, not a criminal act.

In her closing argument on Monday, the prosecutor, Treena Kay, claimed the evidence pointed to a carefully plotted assassination. Their goal was to off Charles, so Lori could cash in on his life insurance policy and wed her then-beau Chad Daybell, an Idaho author peddling end-of-the-world novels.

If this standoff between right and wrong wasn't intriguing enough, Lori isn't new to the criminal scene. She's already serving three consecutive life sentences without parole for offing her two youngest kiddos and a romantic competitor in Idaho. In the Arizona case, she's pleaded not guilty. If found guilty, she could face yet another life sentence.

Lori's brother Alex Cox claimes he popped Charles out of self-defense; Alex handed up the bucket about five months after the shooting, claiming he succumbed to a blood clot in his lungs. However, the prosecution alleges Alex staged the scene by waiting 47 minutes before ringing up the cops and arranging a bat nearby to make it look like self-defense.

A recording between Lori and the life insurance company played before the jury started their deliberations, with Lori insisting Charles had been shot accidentally. Lori was throwing glances at the jury during the prosecution's closing arguments, eagerly awaiting their decision.

Testifying on behalf of the prosecution last week was Adam Cox, another brother of Lori. He backed up the prosecution's claims and stated he had no doubt that Lori and her siblings were responsible for Charles' death. Adam also shared that the killing came just before he and Lori were planning an intervention to bring her back into the fold of their shared faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Adam testified that before Charles' death, Lori had told folks her hubby was deceased and a zombie occupied his body.

In an ugly twist, just four months before his untimely demise, Charles had filed for a divorce from Lori, alleging she had become fascinated with near-death experiences and claimed to have lived numerous lives on other planets[1][2][3]. As the trial over Charles' death marks the first of two criminal trials for Lori Daybell, stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks!
