"Jurassic World: Reborn collects an impressive $318 million worldwide at cinemas"
In the highly competitive summer movie season, the fourth instalment of the Jurassic World series, Jurassic World Rebirth, has made a staggering global, five-day launch of approximately $318.3 million. The movie earned $147.3 million in its first five days in 4,308 North American theaters, with an additional $171 million from 82 markets worldwide.
In the United States and Canada, the dinosaur blockbuster made $147.3 million, while in China alone, it raked in $41.5 million, playing on 65,000 screens, 760 of which were IMAX. This impressive performance places Jurassic World Rebirth as the fourth movie in the series and the seventh since the original adaptation.
However, not all new releases fared as well. How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch, M3GAN 2.0, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Materialists, and 28 Years Later each made between $1.3 million and $11 million in their opening weekends. The movie Elio, on the other hand, made $5.7 million in its opening weekend.
Interestingly, Elio thrived on premium large format screens, making nearly $8 million from only 167 Dolby Cinema screens. This suggests a growing preference among audiences for immersive cinema experiences.
The movie Jurassic World Rebirth also introduced a new main cast and brought back Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. In contrast, This is Spinal Tap (41st Anniversary re-release) made $931,737 in its opening weekend, while F1 The Movie made an estimated $26.1 million in its opening weekend.
Despite the success of Jurassic World Rebirth, the summer movie season is still shaping up to be one of the most competitive ever, according to Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore. With a plethora of new releases still to come, the race for box office dominance is far from over.
In Seattle, theaters are likely to screen Jurassic World Rebirth, given its impressive global success and intriguing blend of movies-and-tv entertainment. The rise of immersive cinema experiences, as demonstrated by Elio's earnings on premium large format screens, might entice Seattle audiences to venture to the theater for an enhanced viewing experience.
