June Lockhart, Iconic TV Mom, Dies at 100
Veteran actress June Lockhart, known for her iconic TV mom roles, has passed away at the age of 100. The cause of death was natural causes. She was surrounded by her loved ones at her Santa Monica home.
Lockhart began her acting career at the age of 8 and went on to win a Tony Award in 1947 for her role in 'For Love or Money'. She was beloved for her portrayal of Ruth Martin in 'Lassie' and Maureen Robinson in 'Lost in Space'. She also played Dr. Janet Craig in 'Petticoat Junction'.
In 'Lost in Space', Lockhart's character inspired many future astronauts. She even appeared with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin when NASA Television won a primetime Emmy Award in 2009. In a 2004 interview, she humorously recalled the famous 'Great Vegetable Rebellion' episode.
Lockhart was a passionate advocate for animal rights and supported the Santa Monica Mounted Police Horses. She was also the national spokesperson for International Hearing Dog Inc.
