Veteran actress June Lockhart, best known for her roles in 'Lassie' and 'Lost in Space', has passed away at the age of 100. She died of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica on Thursday.
Lockhart began her acting career in films, appearing in notable productions like 'All This and Heaven Too' and 'Sergeant York'. She transitioned to television, becoming the third actress to play the female lead in the popular series 'Lassie', following Jan Clayton and Cloris Leachman. From 1958 to 1964, she portrayed Ruth Martin, the warm and compassionate mother of the family that owned the titular dog.
After 'Lassie', she took on another iconic role as Maureen Robinson in 'Lost in Space' from 1965 to 1968. Here, she played the wise and reassuring mother of a family on a mission to a distant planet. Her portrayals of caring mothers in both shows endeared her to young viewers.
