Julian Weber's spear-throwing event yields no results
Julian Weber, the USC Mainz javelin thrower, did not win a medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The German athlete, who was considered a top favourite for gold after a strong season, narrowly missed the podium and finished in fifth place.
Weber's best throw in Tokyo was 87.21 meters, which did not qualify him for a bronze medal. This disappointing result comes after a series of near misses at major global championships. Weber narrowly missed the podium at the World Championships in Eugene 2022 and Budapest a year later, as well as at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 and finished sixth in Paris last year.
The reason for Weber's underperformance at the Tokyo World Championships can be traced back to a previous infection that left him bedridden for a week. This illness affected his physical condition and ultimately cost him a chance at a medal. Weber expressed his disappointment and frustration about his performance at the championships, stating that his disappointment was not due to mental issues, but physical ones.
Despite the setback, Weber remains optimistic about his future performance. He knows he can still win many more medals and keep improving. Weber won the European Championship title in Munich three years ago and set a personal best of 91.51 meters in Zurich this season, repeatedly breaking the 90-meter barrier.
In the javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago emerged as the winner with a distance of 88.16 meters. Anderson Peters from Grenada finished as the runner-up, while Curtis Thompson from the USA was the surprise third-place finisher.
The German Athletics Federation has won three silvers after six days of the World Athletics Championships. The search results do not provide information about the name of the doctor or medical professional who treated Julian Weber during his infection.
