Klöckner left questions about evidence unanswered regarding this claim.
In her time as minister, Klöckner was also involved in a controversy surrounding food imports with EU-banned pesticides. While she denied fighting for such imports, her ministry admitted to pushing for a 'risk-oriented evaluation'. After being confronted by a website, Klöckner provided contradictory statements but did not explicitly and clearly retract her original statement.
These incidents contribute to an environment where more and more politicians and relevant media outlets no longer strive for the truth. Some even suggest that Klöckner's disinformation tactics could benefit the AfD.
