Witness the transformation of double Judo European champion, Alina Boehm, as she gracefully graces the cover of the latest "Playboy" issue (out June 5). A blend of raw strength and feminine allure, the 26-year-old athlete aims to shatter stereotypes with her tasteful photographs, declaring that "power and femininity need not be at odds" as she embodies the ultimate 'total beast' on the mat while maintaining an air of sensuality and femininity off it.

Battling Inner Conflicts

Journeying towards this newfound self-assurance wasn't a walk in the park for Alina, who candidly opened up about her struggles during an interview for the July issue. Being in high-performance sports for more than a decade, her body's development took a different trajectory. "I didn't acquire my feminine physique hastily, and questions about my bust were a sensitive subject for me," Boehm candidly admitted.

In a sport like Judo, where athletes are categorized by weight classes, body image struggles intensified. "Being a woman repeatedly faced with your own weight is replete with insecurities," Boehm admitted. But now, she can boast, "I am enormously proud of my body and what it can accomplish."

The Challenge Lies Ahead

Boasting a gold medal from the European Championships in 2022 and 2023 and a third-place finish last year, it's evident that she's capable. The upcoming Judo World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from June 13 to 20, will offer an opportunity to once again battle for the title. "I've invested all my efforts, and I'm heading into this tournament with the will to triumph,” she declared.

Embracing Herself and Challenging Norms

Appearing on "Playboy" goes beyond a modeling assignment; it's a powerful statement against body shaming and societal norms regarding athletes. This bold move showcases the athletic beauty that often gets overshadowed in a society bogged down by expectations.

Conquering Body Image Issues

  • Personal Struggles: Athletes often face body image issues due to societal pressures and the physical demands of their sport. Overcoming these involves not just physical transformation but mental resilience and self-acceptance.
  • Transition to Modeling: Transitioning into the modeling world can signify an embrace of one's body and self-confidence. This process usually requires a shift in perception, viewing one's body as beautiful rather than an object of scrutiny.
  • Empowerment Through Media: The media can serve as an avenue for body empowerment and challenging societal norms. Being featured on a prominent magazine often brings a sense of power and validity.
  • Public Perception: Reaction from the public may vary, with some lauding it as a positive step towards body positivity and others perceiving it as a departure from traditional expectations of athletes.

I'm not going to be a woman who shies away from embracing entertainment platforms and challenging societal norms. Instead, I'm going to be a woman who uses them to showcase athletic beauty, like Alina Boehm, who conquered her body image issues while gracing the cover of "Playboy", thriving in both the world of Judo and entertainment, shattering stereotypes that power and femininity cannot coexist, and inspiring others to do the same.
