Jigawa State Judiciary Clarifies No Ban on APC Candidate for By-election

In the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency, the by-election is scheduled for this Saturday, following the death of the former member representing the constituency, Hon. Isa Dogon Yaro. However, rumours have been circulating on social media that the APC candidate, Rabiu Mukhtar, has been barred from contesting the election.

In an exclusive interview with Punch on Friday night, the Director of Publicity and Protocol of the Jigawa State Judiciary, Abbas Wangara, condemned these false reports. According to Wangara, the rumours about Rabiu Mukhtar's disqualification from the by-election are "baseless and misleading."

The Jigawa State Judiciary has officially denied any ban or court suit related to Rabiu Mukhtar's participation in the by-election. Wangara clarified that no such case has been filed, and the courts were in recess at the time, thus unable to entertain any election-related case against him.

Supporting this, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Rabiu Mukhtar the winner of the by-election, confirming he contested and won the seat with 38,449 votes against other candidates from PDP and NNPP. There have been no credible reports of any legal proceedings or restrictions affecting his candidacy.

Wangara appealed to political actors and supporters to desist from circulating rumours that could incite unrest or confusion. The judiciary remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring justice is served transparently and fairly during this election period.

The judiciary's stance on the false rumours undermining public trust and violating judicial dignity remains unchanged, as noted by Wangara in his previous statements. The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Judiciary urged the public to rely on credible sources of information instead of social media speculation.

With courts in recess and no pending cases on the APC candidate, Jigawa's judiciary stands firm in clarifying the facts amid a tense political atmosphere. The by-election in the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency is set to proceed as scheduled, with Rabiu Mukhtar as a valid participant.
