Jubilee event in southeast Leipzig: Sports Bath invites you to a grand 100th anniversary celebration
Celebrating 100 Years of the Southeast Summer Bath in Stötteritz
Leipzig's Southeast Summer Bath, a beloved local attraction, is gearing up for its centennial celebration this year. The festivities will take place in the district of Stötteritz, with the grand event spanning throughout the day and ending at 6 PM.
The Southeast Summer Bath was initially conceived as a playground by the "Leipzig Southeast Sports Association" in 1919. Due to the growing health risks associated with swimming in rivers, caused by pollution, the need for public swimming pools in Leipzig for better hygiene became evident. The Southeast Summer Bath was constructed with a municipal loan of 140,000 Reichsmarks and was completed within a year, opening its doors to the public on May 10, 1925.
The celebration promises a variety of activities for all ages, both in and out of the water. On-site attractions include a 25-meter obstacle swim, Aqua-Fit courses, a water construction site, a sponge tower, and even a delicious anniversary cake, with the slicing ceremony scheduled for 2 PM.
Admission to the celebration is set at 100 cents per person, and on the first day alone, 3,591 entrance tickets were sold. The Volunteer Fire Department Leipzig East is also participating in the anniversary celebration with a demonstration called "Water, March!".
For those interested in exploring the rich history of the Southeast Summer Bath, it's worth noting that an application for a public outdoor pool was submitted three years later.
Visitors are encouraged to join in the festivities, which promise to be a memorable occasion marking the Southeast Summer Bath's 100th birthday.
