Bremen Philharmonic Announces "Festive Journey" Concert Schedule
The Bremen Philharmonic is set to deliver an enchanting musical experience with their 2nd Philharmonic Concert, scheduled for October 28 and 29, 2024, at the Konzerthaus Glocke.
The concert program promises a captivating blend of timeless masterpieces, featuring the performance of Richard Strauss' Alpine Symphony and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's overture "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage."
Richard Strauss' Alpine Symphony, composed in 1915, showcases the versatility of a modern orchestra, with almost every instrument, including cymbals and wind machines, playing a significant role. This symphony, with its crystal-clear, glistening glaciers, as suggested by the music magazine "Signale für die musikalische Welt" in 1915, promises to transport listeners to the heart of the Alps.
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's overture, written in 1828, was inspired by two poems of the same name by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The overture, with its serene and prosperous themes, serves as a perfect counterpoint to the Alpine Symphony's more dynamic and dramatic elements.
In a special debut, pianist Nathalia Milstein will perform Dmitrij Schostakowitsch's Piano Concerto No. 2. Composed in 1957, this piece stands in stark contrast to his tragic symphonies No. 10 and 11. Schostakowitsch's second piano concerto is one of his most popular works and has been used as film music, including in Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies" in 2015.
