Journalists' Association Urges Permission for Entry into Gaza Region

In a strongly worded open letter, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) pleads for immediate, independent, and unrestricted access for international media professionals to the Gaza Strip. Amidst ongoing hostilities and resurging humanitarian aid efforts, it's essential that Israel grants passage to international journalists, the letter stresses.
Israel is encouraged to guarantee the protection of local reporters as well, the letter adds. This joint call to action, published alongside the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), has earned more than 100 international media outlets' endorsements.
Since the Gaza war, initiated by Hamas and other Islamic militants on Israel on October 7, 2023, international journalists have had limited opportunities to visit the Gaza Strip, typically in the company of the Israeli military. This conflict, involving around 1,200 fatalities and nearly 250 hostage situations in the Gaza Strip, has led to stringent measures by Israel to limit access for foreign correspondents.
CPJ reports at least 181 journalists killed in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon since the conflict erupted[1][2]. Israel alleges that many local journalists in the Gaza Strip work for Hamas, with several media outlets there closely associated with the Islamic organization. However, critics deem these allegations against local reporters as a tactic by Israel to stifle critical reporting from the battlefield.
