Jordanian border witnessing fatal attack resulting in death of two Israelis
In a shocking turn of events, a Jordanian national carried out an attack at the Allenby Bridge border crossing between Jordan and the occupied West Bank, an incident that has resulted in the death of two Israeli men. The attacker, who arrived in a truck carrying humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip, initially opened fire with a firearm before his weapon malfunctioned, causing him to stab two men.
The victims, aged 20 and 60, were unfortunately killed in the attack. Initially, it was reported that they were shot, but subsequent army reports have revealed that security forces 'neutralized' the suspected attacker, a term that typically indicates the attacker was killed.
This attack has unfortunately echoed a similar incident that occurred at the same border crossing the previous year, resulting in the death of three Israeli workers.
The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, has claimed a connection to the incident, posting about the attack on their Telegram account and praising it. The Israeli military wing has not yet confirmed this connection.
Jordan, a country that signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, temporarily suspended person traffic at the border following the incident. The Israeli border crossing at Allenby Bridge remains closed for an extended period due to the incident.
The attack has also impacted Gaza aid deliveries, as the truck carrying humanitarian aid was involved in the incident.
It is worth noting that many Palestinians live in Jordan; it is estimated that 30 to 40 percent of all Jordanians have Palestinian roots.
Israeli President Izchak Herzog has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. The Jordanian government spokesman, Mohamed Al-Momani, has confirmed an investigation into the 'security incident' at the border.
Jordanian security forces have reported that they killed the Jordanian national involved in the attack. This is not the first time a Jordanian has carried out such an attack at this border crossing.
The military wing of the Islamic terrorist organization Hamas has also praised the attack at the border crossing. This is a concerning development, as it suggests that such attacks may continue in the future.
As the investigation continues, the international community hopes for a swift resolution and an end to such tragic incidents.
