In a shocking incident, an attack occurred at the Allenby Bridge, the border crossing between Jordan and the Israeli-controlled West Bank. The attacker, a Jordanian man, arrived in a truck carrying humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip.

Upon reaching the border, the suspected attacker first opened fire with a firearm at the crossing. He then stabbed two men, a 20-year-old and a 60-year-old, before being neutralized by Israeli security forces. Initial reports suggested that both victims were killed by gunshots, but later reports indicate they were actually stabbed.

The Israeli President, Izchak Herzog, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. Meanwhile, the Israeli military has not commented on a possible closure of the border crossing. However, the Jordanian government has temporarily halted person-to-person traffic at the border, and the border crossing will remain closed for an extended period due to the incident.

The military wing of the Islamist terror organization Hamas, the Kassam Brigades, praised the attack at the border crossing. In a Telegram message, the Kassam Brigades emphasized their connection to Israel's neighboring country Jordan, using a post that showed a burning Israeli tank and a red triangle, which Hamas uses to mark enemy targets.

Jordanian government spokesman Mohamed Al-Momani stated that authorities are investigating the 'security incident' at the border. It is estimated that 30 to 40 percent of all Jordanians have Palestinian roots, and many Palestinians live in Jordan.

This attack comes amidst the ongoing tension in the region, underscoring the need for continued dialogue and peace efforts. The 1994 peace treaty between Israel and Jordan remains a crucial foundation for stability in the Middle East. The international community is urged to support efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflicts in the region.
