Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers' quarterback, is scheduled for a surgical treatment on his left thumb.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is set to undergo a procedure on his left thumb, but the team is optimistic that the recovery time will be short, and he will not miss any regular-season games.
The injury, a ligament issue in Love's non-throwing thumb, occurred during the preseason opener against the New York Jets when Love hit his hand on a helmet. Love managed to continue practicing, albeit with an unconventional technique to protect his thumb.
Coach Matt LaFleur described the recovery as "relatively quick," and general manager Brian Gutekunst expects Love to practice next week and be ready for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. Love's surgery was performed promptly after he tried to play through the injury early in training camp.
Love has had a promising career since being drafted by the Packers in 2020. He has completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 8,154 yards with 60 touchdowns and 25 picks in 42 career games (33 starts). Last season, he passed for 3,389 yards and 25 touchdowns against 11 interceptions in 15 games (all starts).
The Packers' first regular-season game of the 2022 season is at home against NFC North rival Detroit, scheduled for September 7. With Love expected to return to practice next week, the team remains confident that he will be ready to lead them in their season opener.
