In the rolling hills of central Italy, the Tirreno-Adriatico race continued to captivate spectators and cycling enthusiasts alike. The second stage, a 178-kilometre journey from San Benedetto del Tronto to Lido di Camaiore, witnessed an exciting finish with a home winner taking the top spot.

Jonathan Milan, a 26-year-old Italian rider, riding for Lidl-Trek, clinched a thrilling victory in the sprint finish, securing his fourth win of the season. Milan, who is currently building form for the Classics, expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance, stating they were in the perfect position throughout the race.

Lidl-Trek led under the flamme rouge and set an infernal pace in the finale, propelling Milan to the victory line with a margin of approximately three bike lengths. Maikel Zijlaard from Tudor finished in second place, while Paul Penhoët (Groupama-FDJ) completed the podium in third.

The stage, however, was not without its share of drama. A crash in the bunch forced David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) to abandon the race. Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco AlUla) also experienced a setback, crashing and having to rejoin the pack, still over 10km from the finish.

Ineos Grenadiers, with Filippo Ganna, the race leader and stage one winner, in their ranks, took up the charge into the finale. Despite Manuele Tarozzi, a 26-year-old Italian with three career wins, attempting an escape, the headwind and a subsequent peloton regrouping thwarted his efforts.

Milan will make his debut at the Tour de France this July, and his performance in Tirreno-Adriatico has certainly caught the attention of cycling fans. His team manager, Mauro Gianetti, will undoubtedly be pleased with Milan's progress, as he prepares for the prestigious event.

In the general classification, Milan finds himself in second place, 19 seconds behind Filippo Ganna. Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) finished fifth in the stage, maintaining his position in the overall standings.

As the Tirreno-Adriatico race moves into its latter stages, the Italian crowds will undoubtedly be hoping for more home winners, following the inspiring performance of Jonathan Milan.
