Jonas Vingegaard Confirms Participation in 2025 Vuelta a España and UCI Road World Championships

Jonas Vingegaard, the Danish cyclist who placed second in this year's Tour de France, has confirmed his participation in the 2025 Vuelta a España and the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda later that year.

After a strong performance at the Tour de France, Vingegaard is aiming for victory at the Vuelta a España, a race he will be competing in for the first time in two years. Following the Vuelta, he plans to make his debut at the World Championships, marking a shift from his usual Grand Tour focus.

Regarding the Giro d'Italia, Vingegaard has expressed interest in racing it at some point in the future, but has not committed to riding it next year or in the near future. He stated, "I've always said that I also would like to do the Giro once," but has prioritized the Vuelta and World Championships for now.

The decision about Vingegaard's goals for next year will be discussed with his team. While he has not yet decided if he will participate in the Giro d'Italia next year, he has mentioned that he can have a few bad days and had his lowest level on some stages during the Tour de France. However, his numbers on some stages were his best ever, and he showed a newfound relaxed confidence during the race.

Vingegaard lost a total of 3:15 at Caen time trial on stage 5 and Hautacam on stage 12, but often ended stages happy with his performances. In mountain stages, his team put Tadej Pogacar under unrelenting pressure, but Pogacar would wait it out before ripping away in the final.

Wout van Aert won stage 21 of the Tour de France, while Thymen Arensman won solo at La Plagne. Pogacar felt that Vingegaard "opened up" this Tour, and despite losing seconds on GC to Pogacar, Vingegaard had healthy doses of pragmatism during the race.

Vingegaard is a rider for Visma-Lease a Bike, and his current formal race itinerary centers on the Vuelta a España and the World Championships, with the Giro d'Italia remaining a probable but non-committed race option for future seasons.

Sports such as cycling will be a major focus for Jonas Vingegaard in the coming years, as he confirmed his participation in both the 2025 Vuelta a España and the UCI Road World Championships. After his impressive performance at this year's Tour de France, Vingegaard aims to achieve victory in the Vuelta a España, a race he will be competing in for the first time in two years, and make his debut at the World Championships, marking a shift from his usual Grand Tour focus.
