Jonas Vingegaard Kicks Off Season at Paris-Nice Aiming for Overall Victory
Jonas Vingegaard, the reigning Tour de France champion, is set to begin his season at Paris-Nice this year, aiming for overall victory. His coach, Tim Heemskerk, anticipates a strong performance, dubbing it 'Jonas 2.0' as they prepare for the Tour de France this summer.
Vingegaard's start to the season has been promising. He won the Volta ao Algarve in Portugal in his first competitive appearance of the new campaign. Last year, he skipped Paris-Nice to ride Tirreno-Adriatico, where he secured two stage wins and the overall title. This year, he returns to Paris-Nice as the overall favourite.
Despite his success, Vingegaard is not interested in media discussions about his and Tadej Pogacar's schedules. The two riders have different racing schedules leading up to the Tour de France. Vingegaard's coach, Michael Mørkøv, guides his development for the prestigious event.
Vingegaard's return to training after the Tour de France last year was swift. He finished second at the race in July, then went on to win the Tour de Pologne. However, a crash at Itzulia Basque Country in 2024 affected his muscle mass and explosive values, which he has since been working to rebuild.
With Paris-Nice as his first major goal of the season, Vingegaard is poised to continue his impressive form. His coach's high expectations and his own strong start to the season suggest a successful campaign ahead, culminating in the Tour de France this summer.
