Jon Stewart to Host "The Daily Show" Tonight, Likely to Discuss Jimmy Kimmel's Temporary Absence
Jon Stewart is set to host Thursday night's episode of "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, marking his return to the show since his usual Monday slot. This time, he'll be joined by Maria Ressa, the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and CEO of Rappler.
In recent news, Jimmy Kimmel's show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", has been benched by Disney and ABC following a series of controversial comments. The decision came after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened Disney if it didn't muzzle Kimmel, a move that has been met with criticism from various quarters.
Stewart has not shied away from addressing media-related issues. In a July episode, he addressed the cancellation of CBS' "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert". On his Monday monologue, he addressed the right-wing pundits who were framing the shooter who killed pundit Charlie Kirk as a leftist. He also criticized media companies who think "bending the knee to Trump" will save them, and those who bend to political pressure, singing a song, "Go fuck yourself!", to express his disapproval.
Desi Lydic has been hosting the show on Tuesday through Thursday in Stewart's absence. Thursday night's episode will delve into the media landscape further, with Ressa joining the conversation. Ressa, who is also a Columbia University professor and author of "How to Stand Up to a Dictator", has experience fighting a government trying to silence the free press. She was arrested and found guilty of libel in the Philippines due to Rappler's criticism of then-President Rodrigo Duterte, a case she claims was politically motivated.
The episode airs at 11 p.m. ET and will be available on Paramount+ the next morning. Tune in to catch Stewart and Ressa's insightful discussion on media, politics, and freedom of speech.
