Jon Jones declared as retired by Tom Aspinall; Aspinall presses UFC to leave Jones' legendary status behind

UFC enthusiasts can't get enough of the potential heavyweight showdown between Tom Aspinall and Jon "Bones" Jones, but Jones seems to be stuck in limbo about his future.

Aspinall, who last stepped into the octagon in 2024, has been gearing up for a potential bout with the legendary Jones. Known as one of the greatest fighters of all time, Jones's legendary status makes this potential match a hot topic among fans.

However, Aspinall seems ready to call Jones's career final. In a candid interview on the "Good Guy/Bad Guy" podcast, Aspinall declared that he considers Jones to be retired.

"Jon Jones is done," Aspinall stated. "I'm the undisputed heavyweight champion. I'm ready to take on all comers."

Although Jones hasn't officially announced his retirement, his recent comments suggest a strong inclination towards retiring from the sport. In a social media post, Jones hinted that he is content with his life and doesn't feel the need to call himself "retired." This ambiguity has sparked debate among fans who feel that Jones is causing a stalemate in the heavyweight division by not vacating the title or facing contenders like Tom Aspinall.

Jones, with an impressive 28-1-1 record (his only loss by disqualification), has made a lasting impact on the UFC as an unstoppable force. He last made headlines at UFC 309 in Nov 2024, defeating Stipe Miocic and breaking out the infamous "Trump Dance." Even the UFC's scariest fighter admires Jones, but Aspinall isn't impressed with Jones's hesitation when it comes to facing him.

"Those guys have been waiting around too long," Aspinall said. "I'm ready to move on. Let's see what the future holds for the heavyweight division."

As of now, there's no definitive word on whether the highly-anticipated fight will actually occur. With Jones's recent comments indicating a potential retirement, fans will have to wait and see if this dream matchup happens. Stay tuned for updates.
