Joint Trainers Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore discuss expansive goals for the future in training capacity

Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore have been granted a joint training licence by the British Horseracing Authority, officially making them joint trainers at Scotland's most successful jumps stable near Kinross.

This development marks a planned and exciting evolution for the stable, looking ahead to the 2025/26 jumps season. Russell, who has been training since 1995, has established a highly accomplished career with over 1,000 winners, including two Grand Nationals and four Cheltenham Festival successes.

Michael Scudamore, who trained independently in Herefordshire before joining Russell's team as assistant trainer in 2023, has now stepped up to a leadership role alongside her. Scudamore has spent the last two years learning and integrating into the Russell stable team, and his backing has allowed the stable to expand by 20%.

The size of the stable will now increase to around 160 horses in training.

Russell emphasized that apart from the licence name change, operational practices will remain the same, but Scudamore's leadership is already positively impacting the stable.

Scudamore's achievements include a Cheltenham Festival victory with Next Sensation in the 2015 Grand Annual, and winning the Welsh National at Chepstow in 2013 with Monbeg Dude.

The stable's recent successes include occupying the 12th spot in the trainers' championship last season and scoring at the Cheltenham Festival for a fourth time with Myretown in the Ultima.

Looking ahead, the joint-training partnership aims to reach greater heights, reflecting their ambitions for continued success. Russell's yard in Kinross, Perthshire, has produced two Grand National winners: One For Arthur in 2017 and Corach Rambler in 2023.

Lucinda Russell has celebrated 30 years with a professional licence, during which she has saddled over 1,000 winners. Peter Scudamore, an eight-time champion jockey, will remain as assistant to Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore.

The stable is eager to further build on their past successes and is looking forward to an exciting future under the joint leadership of Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore.

With the joint training licence from the British Horseracing Authority, Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore aim to push the boundaries of success at Scotland's most successful jumps stable near Kinross. As racing enthusiasts anticipate the 2025/26 jumps season, the expansion of the stable to around 160 horses in training promises an increased presence in sports such as horse-racing and racing events.
