Odyssey Sims Joins Indiana Fever on Hardship Contract

Odyssey Sims has joined the Indiana Fever on a hardship contract, filling a void left by season-ending injuries to guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald. Sims, a veteran guard with over a decade of experience, expressed excitement about joining the Fever, a team she believes to be a great organization with great players.

Sims' debut with the Fever is set for Tuesday against the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. In her short time with the team, Sims has made a significant impact, contributing notably in a historic comeback victory against Connecticut, where she logged a team-high 42 minutes, scoring 19 points and dishing out 7 assists.

Prior to joining the Fever, Sims played 12 games for the Los Angeles Sparks this season, averaging 9.8 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds. The coaching staff is focusing on teaching Sims the basic plays for now, with plans for her to review the full playbook.

Sims is aware that she may make mistakes due to the new playbook, but she is approaching the situation with no pressure. Her approach will be to "do what I do best" and fit into whatever role the coaching staff needs. Sims believes her playing style aligns well with the Fever's up-tempo offense.

Over the course of her career, Sims has been asked to adapt quickly to new rosters and has played for six different WNBA teams since being drafted No. 2 overall in 2014. She has over 300 career games under her belt and hopes her experience will help her lead in the locker room.

The game is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN. Sims is eager to connect with the Fever's fan base and contribute to the team's late-season push. She aims to have a positive impact on the team, pour into her teammates, and help from the point guard position.

Per WNBA rules, hardship contracts are short-term and do not allow players to participate in the playoffs. However, Sims' impact with the Indiana Fever has been solid, providing scoring, playmaking, and experienced stability during a difficult stretch for the Fever’s guard rotation.
