The story begins in 2023, when watch writer Brynn Wallner stumbled upon a photo of JFK Jr. wearing a burly Timex watch. The photo, initially intended for Instagram, was kept private by vintage dealer Alan Bedwell. However, Bedwell's instincts about the potential of the photo led to a collaboration with Timex and Dimepiece, resulting in the first ever collaborative watch for Dimepiece.
The original Timex Intrepid, known for its large 46mm size and features like a slide-rule bezel and Timex's Indiglo technology, was a favourite of JFK Jr. He was often seen wearing it on his sailboat, with suits, and even on his bike. The redesigned version, priced at $235, significantly downsizes the watch to a more wearable 36mm case.
The redesign honours the original's sailing heritage and JFK Jr.'s legacy while making the watch more accessible and stylish for a broader audience, including women. The dial has been updated from bright white to vintage cream, and the Indiglo button colour has changed from green to purple. The bezel design shifts from a slide rule to a unidirectional black 60-minute insert with raised claws for grip. The caseback is cobranded with Timex and Dimepiece logos.
Brynn Wallner, who played a key role in this redesign, brought a fresh and modern approach that blends heritage with contemporary sensibility. The Timex Intrepid x Dimepiece Edition sold out nearly immediately upon its release late last month.
