John Dowland's Lamentations, a well-known musical composition
Christ Church is celebrating 500 years of music with the event series 1525-2025. As part of this celebration, the award-winning viol consort Phantasm will be performing John Dowland's Lachrimae, a blend of dance and lament written in 1604.
The specific event, titled "Leaflet Google", is not part of the event series 1525-2025, but it will take place at Christ Church. The performance of Lachrimae will be handled by Phantasm, who won a Gramophone Award and the Diapason d'or de l'Année for their 2017 recording of the piece.
Lachrimae consists of seven pavans of tears, derived from four descending notes. The performance at the "Leaflet Google" event is not a reprise of the one for which Phantasm won the awards.
The exact date and time for the "Leaflet Google" event are not specified, but the full listing of festival events at Christ Church can be found on the Music at Oxford's website, where tickets for the event can also be booked.
Elizabeth Kenny, a lutenist, will collaborate with Phantasm in the performance of Lachrimae. The event is not specified to be a part of the event series 1525-2025, but it is certainly a highlight of the celebration.
For those interested in attending, the event can be booked online through the Music at Oxford website. Don't miss this opportunity to witness Phantasm's captivating performance of John Dowland's Lachrimae at Christ Church.
