John Cena, Star of Peacemaker, Saved the Day for Me
In the second season of the profane workplace comedy, "Peacemaker," John Cena's character, Chris Smith, finds himself navigating an alternate Earth.
Smith, originally a jingoistic psycho, was spared from death in the third act of the first season and transformed into the lead character in the TV series. He is now impersonating his doppelganger in the alternate world, a role that has earned Cena critical acclaim for his performance, considered some of his best work in almost twenty years of acting.
The series, which boasts an eccentrically cheesy '80s hair-metal soundtrack, sees Smith's character starting to visit the alternate Earth and impersonating his doppelganger from the get-go. By the end of the fifth episode, Smith has everything he wants in this alternate world, including a chance at love with the alternate-universe version of Harcourt.
However, Smith's achievements in the alternate world are tainted, according to Cena, because he impersonates someone to get them. This double life takes a toll on Smith, who starts abusing substances and acting out sexually.
The second season of "Peacemaker" ties directly into James Gunn's upcoming film "Man of Tomorrow." In the series, Peacemaker meets and accidentally kills his doppelganger from the alternate Earth. Cena's Peacemaker also makes a cameo in Gunn's "Superman."
John Cena cannot reveal details about episode six of "Peacemaker," but he does express concern for the speaker's well-being in a recent phone conversation. The interview, which will go live after episode five of "Peacemaker" comes out, will shed more light on the twists and turns of the series.
In the first episode of "Peacemaker," Smith is rejected by the superhero establishment. Despite this, he manages to find a place for himself in the alternate world, a world that may not be as black and white as it seems.
A widely-circulated photo of Cena and David Corenswet hanging out in costume has been making the rounds, but no details about it are revealed in the interview. Fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for Chris Smith and Peacemaker in the alternate universe.
