Wolfsburg's Coach Kovac Faces Job Anxiety? Not So Fast, Says He
Niko Kovac, the head coach of Wolfsburg, seems to be maintaining a level head amidst the team's crisis in the Bundesliga. Despite losing five of their last seven matches, Kovac remains unfazed, stating, "I don't feel any pressure."
Recently, Wolfsburg suffered a disappointing 1-3 loss against relegation candidates VfL Bochum, with a particularly poor first half performance. The team now finds itself four points behind the sixth spot. This inconsistency has resulted in frustration from the players, including dissatisfied captain Maximilian Arnold, and anger from the fans.
Despite these challenges, Kovac refuses to shirk responsibility. He acknowledges, "We are in the middle of it and would like more. Of course, I'm putting the shoe on. I'm not running away from it either."
A Turning Point in Sight?
The upcoming DFB Cup match against Borussia Mönchengladbach offers a chance for redemption. However, this isn't the first time Wolfsburg has faced Gladbach with unfavorable memories. Just 30 weeks ago, they lost 4-0 to the same team in the league. A repeat defeat could further fuel internal doubts.

To turn things around, Kovac believes that the team needs a positive mindset. They need to "be braver and can be better," as he expounds. If they manage to achieve this, a win against Gladbach could be in sight.
Kovac's Upcoming Challenge Awaits with Borussia Dortmund
While Kovac is still at the helm of Wolfsburg, it's worth noting that he has recently taken up a new role as the head coach of Borussia Dortmund. Starting from February 23, 2025, Kovac will lead Dortmund through their challenging debut against VfB Stuttgart and a vital Champions League playoff clash against Sporting Lisbon[1][4].
Wolfsburg, meanwhile, will face Gladbach with their current coach, as they aim to secure a win to boost their European football hopes for this season[2].
