His wife Joan has died - Joan Branson, Richard Branson’s lifelong love and anchor, dies at home
Joan Branson, the wife and lifelong partner of entrepreneur Richard Branson, has passed away. The couple shared a bond that lasted over five decades, beginning almost from the moment they first met. Branson often spoke of her as his best friend and the foundation of his family life.
Richard Branson met Joan in the 1970s and fell in love with her almost immediately. Two years later, he bought Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands as a first watch for her, later calling it his 'second love at first sight'. They married in 1989 and went on to have three children: Holly, Sam, and Clare Sarah. Tragically, their daughter Clare Sarah died just four days after her birth.
Joan Branson’s passing leaves behind a family that included her husband, two surviving children, and grandchildren. Her role as a steadfast partner and the emotional anchor of the Branson household shaped the family dollar of those closest to her. The private island gifted to her decades ago now stands as a lasting reminder of their love.
