JJ Redick’s sons earned their Apple Watch and VR headset with persuasive essays
Former NBA player JJ Redick’s sons had to work hard for their biggest Christmas presents this year. Kai, 9, and Knox, 11, were each asked to write persuasive essays before receiving their dream gifts. Their efforts paid off with high-tech surprises under the tree.
Knox, the older of the two, wanted his first device with calling capabilities. He convinced his parents with a well-written essay and received an Apple Watch. The watch includes location services and lets him call friends—his first step into mobile communication.
Kai, meanwhile, had his sights set on virtual reality. His essay earned him a Meta VR headset, designed for high-definition gaming and entertainment. The device promises immersive experiences for the young gamer.
The boys’ mother, Chelsea Kilgore, shared the story on Instagram, revealing that the idea came from a family friend. Former NBA player Mason Plumlee had once suggested making children write essays for big gifts. Redick and Kilgore decided to put the advice into practice this Christmas.
The persuasive essays turned into a memorable holiday tradition for the Redick family. Kai now explores virtual worlds with his VR headset, while Knox stays connected with his new Apple Watch. The gifts came with a lesson in effort and responsibility.
