Jimmy Kimmel, renowned talk show host, reveals his Italian citizenship amidst Trump's focus on celebrity adversaries
Jimmy Kimmel, the long-standing host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, has announced that he is seriously considering relocating to Italy due to his concerns about the political climate in the U.S. and the potential return of Donald Trump to power.
In a conversation on The Sarah Silverman Podcast, Kimmel expressed his dismay at the current state of American politics, stating, "What's going on is as bad as you thought it was gonna be, it's so much worse." He went on to say that he feels the situation is even worse than Trump might want it to be.
Kimmel's decision to potentially move to Europe appears to be motivated by fear of a second Trump term and the hostile political environment. He is not alone in this decision, as other celebrities like Rosie O'Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres have also considered or made moves abroad due to similar reasons.
Kimmel's acquisition of Italian citizenship this year followed proof of his ancestral lineage to Italy, permitting this possible move. He has been a vocal critic of Trump on his show, often speaking out against him when hosting the Oscars and throughout the years.
Trump has not been shy about expressing his disdain for Kimmel and other late-night talk show hosts, such as Jimmy Fallon. He has made several posts on Truth Social stating that Kimmel and Fallon might be losing their shows, and during the Oscars, he called Kimmel a bad host.
O'Donnell, who was a host on The View from 2006 to 2007, has also faced threats from Trump over her U.S. citizenship. She has frequently feuded with Trump and has expressed fears that The View might be cancelled for not bowing down to him.
Kimmel's show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, has been on ABC for 22 years, but it was not cancelled. Instead, CBS ended The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Despite Trump's comments, it remains to be seen whether Kimmel will indeed relocate to Italy or if he will continue to host his show in the U.S.
