Jim Goldie, supported by five others, secured a spot in the Ayr Bronze Cup. However, Goldie believes the competition's favorite faces a "nightmare" due to their draw.
Ayr Gold Cup Meeting: Preview of the Bronze Cup
The Ayr Gold Cup meeting is set to commence this week, and one of the most anticipated races is the Bronze Cup. With several horses vying for the top spot, here's a rundown of the key contenders and the current conditions of the racecourse.
The going is expected to be good to soft by the end of play on Thursday, with forecasts suggesting it may near good to soft on Friday and remain soft in places on Saturday. A light rain shower is predicted around 3pm on Saturday.
Graeme Anderson, the Clerk of the course, anticipates these conditions to suit many of the horses.
Among the favourites is Eternal Sunshine, trained by Jim Goldie. This horse is currently on a four-win streak, with a career-best performance in the Portland last weekend. However, Eternal Sunshine carries an 8lb penalty in the Bronze Cup, despite being 6lb well in. The horse's draw in stall one is considered a disadvantage due to a headwind.
Eternal Sunshine's stablemate, Kelpie Grey, is also in good form and prefers cut in the ground. Another horse from Goldie's stable, Mostar Dreams, is expected to go very close in the race. Goldie also has horses Yaaser (stall 11) and Oriental Prince (stall 21) in the race.
Wobwobwob (stall 5), trained by Adrian Keatley, won the Silver Cup two years ago and has shown good form in recent races. Keatley's horse is in good order and will attempt to win the Bronze Cup after winning the Silver.
Bosh, trained by Michael Dods, would prefer the ground to dry a bit. Dods also has Woven in the race, a horse that would benefit from rain as he loves soft ground. Moonstone Boy, another horse from Dods' stable, is crying out for six furlongs and has cheekpieces on instead of blinkers.
Territorial Knight (stall 9), a three-year-old, is an attractive each-way bet in the Bronze Cup, with strong performances in recent races. Iain Jardine's horse Jonny Concrete has been consistent this year and has first-time blinkers on.
It's worth noting that Eternal Sunshine is the hot favourite for the Bronze Cup, but with several horses showing promising form, the race is expected to be a close one. Stay tuned for updates as the Ayr Gold Cup meeting unfolds.
