JFK Assassination Records Set to Unveil Hidden Data in 2025
FBI Records Related to JFK Assassination Now Public
The long-awaited FBI records related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy have been made public, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing declassification effort.
Starting in early August 2025, roughly 2,200 files with over 63,000 pages have been released, following the transfer of the records from the FBI to the National Archives in 2025. These documents can be found under the National Archives Identifier 495982978 on the National Archives Catalog, and are available for public access both online and in person at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland.
The newly released files offer a glimpse into Cold War-era CIA covert operations, but do not provide evidence that contradicts the conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in assassinating JFK.
The National Archives has partnered with federal agencies to comply with President Donald Trump's directive, issued on March 17, 2025, to release all previously classified records related to the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection. The declassification effort is in support of Executive Order 14176, signed in January 2025, which mandates the release of documents concerning the assassinations of JFK, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
It's important to note that some of the released records contain personal identification information of living individuals, and the National Archives and Records Administration is working diligently to protect these individuals. For those who believe they may be affected, they are encouraged to contact the National Archives at [email protected].
The records do not have Record Identification Form (RIF) numbers, but users can search within this series for specific records. The National Archives provides email addresses for reference inquiries ([email protected]) and media inquiries ([email protected]).
Early assessments indicate that the newly released documents mostly pertain to Cold War intelligence activities rather than directly about the assassination plot or conspiracies. No significant revelations or "smoking guns" have been found that challenge the official lone gunman narrative.
In addition to the 2025 release, there are previous releases of records linked under the "2022 Release," "2021 Release," and "2017-2018 Release." A new release of records relating to the Assassination of John F. Kennedy is linked under the "2023 Release."
The records were released without redactions, but agency postponement documentation is available for more information about the releases. The records are being digitized and will be posted to the National Archives' website as they become available. Additional FBI records were transferred from the FBI to the National Archives between March and June 2025.
The FBI delivered JFK records related to the assassination to the National Archives on February 20, 2025. As of March 18, 2025, these records are now available for public access, enriching the historical context about intelligence operations but maintaining the established understanding of JFK's assassination.
*These newly released documents, falling under the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection, are part of the policy-and-legislation process as they comply with Executive Order 14176, focusing on the release of records related to the assassinations of JFK, Robert F.
