Exploring Jewish History with Teens in Thuringia

The Jewish Museum Berlin is planning a tour to engage students from 6th to 10th grade in Thuringia's Gera, Unstrut-Hainich, and Dingelstädt (Eichsfeld district). From November 27 to December 1, the Jewish perspective on history and contemporary life will be introduced through this initiative, the museum announced Monday.

With a belief in the relevance of a diverse historical perspective, this mobile tour has previously visited secondary schools in all 16 German states, reaching over 3,000 classes. As per Hetty Berg, the museum's director, this initiative is crucial given the rising approval for antisemitic remarks in the country and escalating tensions following the Hamas attack on Israel.

Although it may seem like the Jewish Museum Berlin has a mobile museum service, the actuality is that the museum, situated in Berlin-Kreuzberg, offers various guided tours and workshops for school groups. These educational experiences are tailored to topics such as "Religion and Ritual," "Jews in the Christian Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period," and "From the Enlightenment to the Modern Age," among others. These engagements can be arranged by appointment and aim to broaden the understanding of Judaism and its storied past for the students participating.
