Jewish Synagogue Secures Surveillance Gift
The Bad Segeberg Jewish community received a generous gift recently: a state-of-the-art video surveillance system for their synagogue's panic room. The gift comes from Melanie Bernstein, a CDU member of parliament, and local political and business representatives. The chairman of the community, Walter Blender, shared the exciting news on a recent Friday.
Blender explained the significance of this gift, saying, "The system closes a security gap. Now, we can monitor activities outside from within the panic room. It will provide our community members with a sense of reassurance." The synagogue's panic room was set up as a safety measure following the Halle synagogue attack in 2020. At the time, the Jewish community sought guidance from the State Office of Criminal Investigation.
The Bad Segeberg community boasts around 200 members, fortunately, the panic room has yet to be utilized. Blender emphasized that the video surveillance system's potential deterrent effects could prevent crimes against their sacred place of worship.
