Jet's team announces that Justin Fields will not play against the Bucs, opting instead to start Tyrod Taylor.
In a surprising move, the New York Jets have decided to start veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor this weekend, as they look to turn around their 0-2 season. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced the decision, expressing confidence in Taylor's abilities.
Taylor, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, has a career record of 28-28-1 as a starter, having appeared in 95 games. His last start was in the year 2023.
Taylor's most recent outing came during the game against the Buffalo Bills, where he replaced Justin Fields. In that game, he completed 7 of 11 passes for 56 yards and scored one touchdown. He also had 21 yards on three carries.
Fields, who was selected with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 draft, has been in the concussion protocol and will not play this weekend. He spent three seasons with the Chicago Bears and one with the Pittsburgh Steelers before signing with the Jets as a free agent.
The Jets will face a tough challenge this weekend, as they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0). Taylor will be making his first start for the Jets this season.
Throughout his career, Taylor has completed 61.9 percent of his passes for 12,310 yards. He has also thrown 69 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
Taylor's experience and Glenn's confidence in him could provide a much-needed boost for the struggling Jets. As they prepare to face the Buccaneers, the team will be looking to turn things around and secure their first win of the season.
