Jets' Running Game Tests New Depth as Allen Out Against Cowboys
The New York Jets clash with the Dallas Cowboys at home this week, with a significant alteration in their running back lineup. Braelon Allen, Jets' starting running back, is out due to a serious knee injury sustained against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.
Allen, who has 18 carries for 76 yards and a 25-yard average on kickoff returns, was injured on a kickoff return during the game. Head coach Aaron Glenn described the injury as a sprained MCL, but it's now reported to be more severe, with Allen unlikely to play in October. The Jets are yet to decide on his roster status.
In Allen's absence, Isaiah Davis, currently the third-down back, may see an expanded role. Davis has five carries for 27 yards and three receptions for 24 yards this season. Despite the change, the Jets remain the third-ranked rushing team in the NFL, averaging 144.5 yards per game and 5.2 yards per carry.
The Jets' upcoming opponents, the Dallas Cowboys, have been generous in allowing rushing yards, averaging 123.3 yards per game in the first month of the season.
The Jets' game against the Cowboys this week will be a test for their running game, with Allen out and Davis stepping up. The Jets' rushing attack, despite the change, remains a formidable force, and the matchup against the Cowboys' rushing defence will be one to watch.
