Jets edge Rangers in shootout as Comrie's streak hits six straight wins

The Winnipeg Jets secured a hard-fought 3-2 shootout win over the New York Rangers on Sunday. Kyle Connor scored the decisive goal in the shootout, lifting the team to a strong finish on their three-game road trip. The victory also marked a milestone for goaltender Eric Comrie, who extended his career-best winning streak to six games.

Gabe Vilardi played a key role in the Jets' offence, scoring his 27th goal of the season to match his career high from last year. He also assisted on Adam Lowry's goal, which marked Lowry's first since January 13. Vilardi's pass set up Lowry, with Cole Perfetti adding a secondary assist.

The Jets entered the shootout with a struggling record of just one win in five attempts this season. But Connor's clutch goal changed that, sealing the victory and improving the team's record in final matinee games to 8-1-2. The win capped a mixed road trip, leaving Winnipeg with a 1-1-1 record over the three matches.

Between the pipes, Eric Comrie delivered another strong performance, stopping 27 shots. His recent form has been crucial for the Jets, with his last loss dating back to January 1, 2024. Since then, he has recorded 11 wins in 21 starts, posting a 2.96 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage. This six-game winning streak—the longest of his career—has kept the Jets within striking distance of a Western Conference wild-card spot, currently four to five points out.

The Jets now sit at 28-28-10 on the season, with Comrie's consistent play providing a much-needed boost. His ability to limit opponents to two goals or fewer during the streak has given Winnipeg a fighting chance in the tight playoff race. Meanwhile, Vilardi's scoring and Connor's shootout heroics add further momentum as the team pushes for a postseason berth.
