Jets Defense Vows to Improve Ahead of Tampa Bay Buccaneers Showdown

The New York Jets' defense, a strength of the team, is determined to put their disappointing performance against the Buffalo Bills behind them. In a 30-10 loss, the defense allowed 224 yards rushing, the most in four years, and had too many mental mistakes, missed tackles, and allowed too many yards and points.

Quinnen Williams, a key player for the Jets' defense, believes that the team needs to eliminate mental errors and focus on personal performance to dominate their opponents. He emphasizes the need for consistency in their run defense to prevent such performances from happening again.

The Jets' players have been staying after practice late and coming out early to work on improving their run defense. Head coach Aaron Glenn and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks have been encouraging this effort, and the team is evaluating themselves and taking constructive criticism to improve their performance.

Wilks agrees with Williams' assessment of the defense's struggles against Buffalo. He emphasizes the need to return to the performance level shown in the first game against Pittsburgh, where the Jets held them to 53 yards rushing in a 34-32 loss. Everything the Jets do starts up front, and they need to control the line of scrimmage every week.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who the Jets will face next, have issues up front on offense. Guards Cody Mauch and Luke Goedeke are on injured reserve, and All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs is still injured. Despite these challenges, the Buccaneers' offense ranks ninth in the NFL in rushing.

Quinnen Williams focuses on fixing internal issues within the defense rather than focusing on the Bucs' offensive line issues. He believes that the struggles against the Bills were due to a lack of execution and self-inflicted mental errors and penalties.

The Jets will face Baker Mayfield and the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It will be a tough challenge, but the Jets' defense is determined to rise to the occasion and put their disappointing performance against the Bills in the past.
