Jet Ski operator indicted for manslaughter after fatal hit-and-run incident involving Air Force Academy prospective candidate.

A 21-year-old individual, identified as Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, has been charged with manslaughter following a fatal accident involving a jet ski on Grapevine Lake in Texas on Sunday evening. The victim, 18-year-old Ava Moore, was a cadet candidate at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School.

According to Texas Game Warden Capt. Joseph Quintero, Moore was kayaking when the jet ski, operated by Gonzalez Gonzalez, struck her. The jet ski was reportedly moving at a high speed at the time of the collision. Gonzalez Gonzalez and another individual, 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo, fled the scene, resulting in a vehicle accident as they escaped.

Authorities arrested both Gonzalez Gonzalez and Perozo on Tuesday following an extensive investigation and public tips. Quintero praised the team effort and the public's assistance in locating the suspects.

Gonzalez Gonzalez faces felony manslaughter charges, while Perozo was charged with collision involving damage to a vehicle and hindering apprehension, both misdemeanors. The authorities are considering additional charges as the investigation continues.

Superintendent Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind of the U.S. Air Force Academy described Moore as an "exemplary teammate" with a strong passion for leadership and service. Moore's family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers they have received.

According to Joshua Johnson, the acting field office director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Dallas, both Gonzalez Gonzalez and Perozo entered the U.S. illegally, but their details regarding the time and manner of entry are not currently available.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder to prioritize safety on public waters, according to Quintero, who also mentioned that investigators will be looking into the proper permitting for the jet ski and the possibility of alcohol involvement. A female passenger on the jet ski who remained on shore after the collision has not been charged as of now.
