Jérémie Boga joins Juventus on loan after traumatic Nice exit
Jérémie Boga has completed a loan move to Juventus with an option to buy for around €5 million. The 29-year-old French forward arrives after a troubled exit from Nice, where he was attacked by ultras in November 2022. His first match with Juventus could come against Parma on February 1, though he will not yet be available for selection.
Boga's departure from Nice follows an incident on November 30, 2022, after a defeat in Lorient. He and teammate Terem Moffi were subjected to racist abuse and physical assaults, including blows to the head and groin. Both players filed criminal complaints and sought to terminate their contracts, but their requests were denied.
The forward has not played since the attack. Juventus will now assess his physical and mental condition before integrating him into the squad. Boga's versatility allows him to play as a left winger, attacking midfielder, or second striker.
His return to Serie A marks a familiar step, having previously played for Sassuolo and Atalanta. Over 136 appearances in the league, he scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists. The transfer was finalised just before the window closes on February 2, 2023.
Boga's move offers Juventus a flexible attacking option, though his debut will not come immediately. The club will monitor his recovery before deciding on his future involvement. His loan deal includes a purchase clause, giving Juventus time to evaluate his form and fitness.
