Pitch unplayable: Jena vs Wolfsburg match cancelled - Jena vs. Wolfsburg called off as DFB deems pitch unplayable
FC Carl Zeiss Jena’s upcoming Frauen-Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg has been called off. The German Football Association (DFB) ruled the pitch at Jena’s Ernst-Abbé-Sportfeld unplayable. Fans will now look ahead to the team’s next fixture against FC Bayern München later this month.
The cancellation came just before the scheduled kick-off on Saturday. Officials inspected the pitch and declared it unsafe for play. No new date for the Wolfsburg match has been announced yet.
VfL Wolfsburg will instead prepare for their next game against 1. FC Köln on February 2 at 6:00 PM. Meanwhile, Jena’s focus shifts to their home clash with FC Bayern München on January 30. That match will kick off at 6:30 PM at the Ernst-Abbé-Sportfeld.
The DFB’s decision follows recent weather conditions that left the pitch in poor shape. Clubs and supporters now await further updates on the postponed fixture.
Jena’s postponed match leaves a gap in the schedule for both teams. Wolfsburg will travel to Köln next weekend, while Jena hosts Bayern in their next league outing. The DFB has not yet confirmed when the cancelled match will be rescheduled.
