Jefferson County paralyzed by blizzard as drivers battle deep snow and whiteouts
Heavy snowfall hit Jefferson County on Tuesday night, causing dangerous driving conditions. Residents struggled with near-whiteout blizzards as snow squalls blanketed roads and reduced visibility. Multiple vehicles slid off the streets, leaving drivers stranded in deep snowbanks.
Joe Peckman, an Adams resident, described his 10-mile drive as one of the worst he had ever faced. At times, the snowfall was so thick that he experienced complete whiteout conditions. Despite the hazards, he and neighbours worked late into the night to clear driveways and dig out stuck cars.
Jesiah Curry also ran into trouble when his truck skidded off the road and landed in a deep snowbank on someone’s front lawn. With visibility nearly gone, he borrowed a shovel from the homeowner to free his vehicle. Earlier, on his way to Adams, Curry had passed several abandoned cars stuck in the snow. Peckman warned his son against attempting the journey home from work. Instead, he urged him to stay overnight in a nearby hotel until the storm eased.
The snowstorm left roads in Jefferson County treacherous, with deep snowbanks and disabled vehicles blocking routes. Many drivers, including Peckman and Curry, faced long delays and difficult recoveries. Residents continued shovelling through the night to clear pathways and assist stranded motorists.
