Jeff Sperbeck's wife pens emotion-laden goodbye following distressing incident involving Sperbeck
In a heartrending turn of events, the spouse of long-time NFL agent and John Elway's business partner Jeff Sperbeck paid an emotional tribute to her late husband, who tragically passed away following a golf cart accident. Cori Sperbeck, taking to Threads, posted a touching message saying, "I will miss you everyday of my life," alongside a picture of the couple.
Apart from Cori, Jeff leaves behind three children: Carly, Sam, and Jackson. Cori shared the news of Jeff’s death last week, calling him a 'wonderful father, husband, brother, son, and friend to many.' The family is currently grieving this unimaginable loss together, alongside the Elways and many other close friends, as stated in the April 30 announcement.
Determining the cause of death, a coroner ruled that Jeff succumbed to blunt head trauma as a result of the golf cart accident, which took place on April 26, 2025, at the Madison Club in La Quinta, California. The incident occurred during a quarter-mile trip from a private function at the Madison Club to Elway's home on the resort. Elway was the one behind the wheel of the golf cart at the time of the accident, with others present including Elway's girlfriend, his son, daughter-in-law, Sperbeck, and his wife, Cori (as reported by 9News). The accident was ultimately ruled an accident by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
John Elway and the group had initially planned to attend the outdoor Stagecoach country music festival in nearby Indio on April 26, but these plans were abandoned due to cold weather. Instead, the three couples joined a caravan of golf carts carrying between 10 and 15 people. Elway was driving the cart at the rear of the caravan with his girlfriend seated beside him. Prior to departure, Sperbeck suggested that Cori sit up front with Elway and his girlfriend, offering to stand on the back of the cart alongside Johnny Devenanzio. Although there was no swerving or horseplay, Sperbeck tragically fell backwards and hit his head on the ground. Devenanzio yelled for Elway to stop the cart, allowing Cori to rush over to her husband. Sperbeck was still breathing, yet the severity of his injury was apparent. Elway quickly called 9-1-1, and Sperbeck was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Following the incident, Elway shared his genuine sorrow, stating, "I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner, and agent Jeff Sperbeck. My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff's wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam, and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him." Elway emphasized the profound impact Jeff had on his life and the lives of many others.
John Elway hired legal representation, Harvey Steinberg, following the tragedy (as per Fox). Initially, Sperbeck did not represent Elway during the early stages of his NFL career, explaining, "John's older than me, I was still in college." However, the sports agent became an integral part of Elway's life in 1990, as Elway was already a star for the Denver Broncos. Sperbeck played a significant role in helping Elway establish his off-field empire, and later, they formed wine company 7Cellars together in 2013.
