Jeff Hornacek - Identity Unveiled
Jeff Hornacek, born on May 3, 1963, in Elmhurst, Illinois, embarked on a remarkable basketball career that spanned over three decades.
Hornacek's journey began at Iowa State University, where he set the school record for career assists (665) and was an All-Big Eight first team selection as a senior in 1986. This impressive performance caught the attention of the NBA, leading to his selection in the second round (No. 46 overall) of the 1986 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns.
In Phoenix, Hornacek averaged 13.7 points and 5.4 assists in 468 games. His performance was so noteworthy that he was named to the 1992 NBA All-Star Game. The Suns traded him midway through the 1993-1994 season to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Charles Barkley.
With the 76ers, Hornacek found success as a point guard, averaging 18.1 points and 6.5 assists in 132 games. However, his tenure with the team was short-lived, as he was traded back to the Utah Jazz in June 1997.
In Utah, Hornacek returned to his normal position of shooting guard and helped the team reach the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998. His .428 three-point shooting percentage is still the best in Jazz history, and his No. 14 is one of 11 numbers retired by the team.
Hornacek retired following the 1999-2000 season with career averages of 16.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, .496 shooting percentage, and .403 three-point shooting percentage. His retirement marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career, as he began his coaching career as the Jazz's shooting coach seven years after his retirement.
In 2013, the Phoenix Suns hired Hornacek as their 16th head coach in franchise history. His coaching tenure was successful, with him being runner-up for the 2013-14 Coach of the Year. However, he was later appointed as the head coach of the New York Knicks.
Throughout his career, Hornacek has achieved numerous accolades, including being a two-time Three-Point Shootout champion, winning in 1998 and 2000. His contributions to basketball, both on and off the court, continue to be celebrated and remembered.
