Jazzmobile's Summerfest continuingly thriving during Harlem Week festivities
Jazzmobile's Summerfest is set to return this year, bringing free jazz concerts to Harlem and Central Park from early July to mid-September. This annual outdoor jazz celebration continues its tradition of community engagement through music, featuring a diverse range of jazz genres, including Latin, post-bop, blues, and swing stylings.
The 2025 Summerfest schedule includes a variety of renowned jazz artists and rising talents. For instance, Ron Carter, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Camille Thurman are among the performers scheduled to take the stage in Harlem venues and parks.
One of the highlights of this year's Summerfest is the Great Jazz on the Great Hill event, presented in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy. This special event is scheduled for August 9 at 3:30 p.m., with Josh Evans and Wallace Roney, Jr. on trumpet, Lezlie Harrison as the host, and the George Gee Swing Orchestra offering an opportunity for swing dancing.
The opening night of the Charlie Parker Festival, scheduled for Aug. 22, will feature Ron Carter's Great Big Band and vocalist April May Webb and S.O.A.R.
Summerfest concerts are typically held on Wednesdays and Fridays, with the possibility of a change in venue to the Interchurch Center at 61 Claremont Ave. in case of unavailability on Wednesday evenings. All concerts are free to the public, weather permitting.
The Summerfest series is made possible by generous donations from various organisations, including the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, the West Harlem Development Corporation, the Harlem Community Development Corporation, the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, the Joyce and George Wein Foundation, the Howard Gilman Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and Steinway & Sons. PIX11 is a television partner for the Summerfest series.
