In the world of jazz, the Pete Roth Trio stands out as a fresh and exciting newcomer. Led by German-born UK-based guitar instructor, Pete Roth, the group has been captivating audiences across the UK, Europe, and Japan with their unique blend of original compositions and daring interpretations of works by jazz greats like John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Antonín Dvořák.

The trio, which also includes Bill Bruford on drums and Mike Pratt on bass, was formed two years ago when Roth and Bruford, an ex-King Crimson legend, found themselves jamming together. Their creative process is a testament to their synergy, with each musician stepping into the other's frequencies, working things out in the moment, and making each other play differently. This dynamic has resulted in a sound that is intimate, opportunity-driven, and deeply connected with both the other band members and the audience.

Roth's guitar work is a central part of this unique sound. He uses a variety of effects and equipment, including an Epiphone Sheraton as his main guitar, plugged into a Fender Deluxe and a Dr Z EZG-50, running in stereo. He also employs a Boss SY-1 for interesting effects, such as bells, synths, and organs, and an Xotic RC Booster as his always-on, a Boss CE-2 for chorus, a Boss DD-7 for digital delay, a TC Electronic reverb, and a looper.

Bill Bruford's drumming, with its signature style and precision, adds another layer to the trio's sound. Roth credits Bruford for making a huge difference to his style and opening creative doors. The two musicians even have a history, having known each other from teaching at the Academy Of Contemporary Music.

Currently, the Pete Roth Trio is on tour in Europe and the UK in Sep/Oct. While the next concert in Germany is not explicitly listed, the closest confirmed event is on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Exeter Phoenix in the UK. Fans of innovative jazz should not miss this opportunity to witness the Pete Roth Trio's captivating performances.
