Washington Commanders' Quarterback Jayden Daniels Out for Sunday's Game Against Las Vegas Raiders

Washington Commanders' quarterback Jayden Daniels will miss Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders due to an injured left knee. Daniels was limited in practice on Friday, marking the third consecutive day he was unable to participate fully.

Dan Quinn, the Commanders' coach, announced that Daniels won't play this week. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of Washington's game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. Daniels was wearing a brace on his left leg in the Commanders' locker room.

During Friday's practice, Marcus Mariota and two other quarterbacks, Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman, were throwing on a separate field from the rest of the team. This will be Mariota's first start with the Commanders.

Mariota last started a game in 2022 with the Atlanta Falcons. He was resting during the team's training camp and preseason due to Achilles tendinitis. However, Mariota has stated that he's felt back to normal for a couple of weeks now.

If Daniels doesn't play, Josh Johnson is likely to be Marcus Mariota's backup. Johnson has appeared in relief of the starting QB in three games each in 2023 with the Philadelphia Eagles and 2024 with Washington.

Sam Hartman, a practice squad member with the Washington Commanders, was also seen participating in the practice. Hartman could potentially step in if both Mariota and Johnson are unable to play.

Mariota had a successful outing for the Commanders earlier this season, leading their dominant offensive performance in a 41-24 upset victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Dan Quinn has expressed confidence in Marcus Mariota, saying, "I've been impressed with Marcus's leadership and his ability to run our offense."

Jayden Daniels faced pressure throughout the game from the Packers' defense, being sacked four times. The Commanders will hope that Mariota can provide a steady hand in the pocket against the Raiders.
