TV Presenter Jay Blades Appears in Court on Rape Charges

Jay Blades, the popular TV presenter known for his work on shows like The Repair Shop and Money For Nothing, made a court appearance on August 13, 2025, charged with two counts of rape.

The hearing took place at Telford Magistrates' Court via video link, where Blades, 55, from Claverley in Shropshire, confirmed his identity but did not enter a plea. The duration of the hearing was six minutes, and conditional bail was granted to Blades, with a scheduled court date at Shrewsbury Crown Court on September 10, 2025.

Blades has had a successful television career, starting with The Repair Shop in 2017. He also participated in Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Bake Off, and Comic Relief and presented Money For Nothing until 2020. Prior to stepping back from presenting The Repair Shop, Blades was the face of the popular BBC show that featured people having their treasured objects repaired and rejuvenated.

The court hearing did not discuss the reasons for Blades stepping back from presenting The Repair Shop or any potential legal implications of his participation in Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Bake Off, or Comic Relief. Additionally, the court hearing did not specify the location of Blades' involvement in other BBC shows.

Blades' court appearance comes after a separate charge of controlling or coercive behavior, for which he appeared in court earlier in August 2025. He has also resigned from his position as chancellor at Buckinghamshire New University following the charges and stepped down from his role as an ambassador with the King's Foundation.

The outcome of Blades' participation in Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity Bake Off, and Comic Relief remains undetermined, as does any impact of his court case on his involvement in other BBC shows. Blades spoke only to confirm his name, address, and date of birth during the hearing and did not enter pleas.
