Javelin Final at World Athletics Championships: Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra miss out on medals
The Men's Javelin Throw event at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, saw an intense competition among six finalists. The event, which began at 3:23pm Pakistan Standard Time, was dominated by Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago who clinched the gold medal with a throw of 88.16 meters.
Anderson Peters of Grenada secured the silver medal with a throw of 87.38 meters, while Curtis Thompson of the USA took home the bronze with a throw of 86.67 meters. The fourth position was secured by India's Sachin Yadav with a throw of 86.27 meters, marking a personal best for him.
In the final round, Walcott's golden throw was enough to secure the top spot, leaving Peters and Thompson to battle it out for the silver and bronze. Thompson's final throw of 86.67 meters held strong, securing him the bronze, while Peters' best throw of 87.38 meters earned him the silver.
The final round also saw the elimination of Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan. Despite training with a new coach, Salman Butt, and a short-term coach Terseus Liebenberg, Nadeem failed to advance to the top eight and was eliminated in the fourth round. He fouled his second and fourth throws, and his best throw of 82.75 meters in the third attempt was not enough to secure a place in the final round.
Nadeem had expressed his need for prayers for a strong performance in the final round, sharing a video of his qualifying round throw on his X account. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be this time for the Pakistani athlete.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra of India reached the fifth round but did not advance to the final round. His best throw in the event was 84.03 meters. The Men's Javelin Throw event at the World Athletics Championships 2025 was a thrilling competition that showcased the talent and determination of the athletes. The event concluded with Walcott standing atop the podium, Thompson earning the bronze, and Peters securing the silver.
